Veterinarians that work with pigs make important and global contribution to society by ensuring adequate and safe food is available, while still maintaining the health and welfare of pigs. In addition, pig veterinarians are extending the scope and delivery of veterinary science by becoming involved in training programs for pig producers, quality assurance programs, and establishing and managing production systems and global disease prevention.

This years Australian Pig Veterinarians Virtual Conference brings together the profession with 7 hours of high quality CPD and delves into the questions encountered in the veterinary practice and industry today. It is an event not to be missed and offers a flexible and on-demand virtual format.

On-demand videos of the entire conference will be available for registered delegates until 23 March 2022. Please be logged in to watch the talks.

About Australian Pig Veterinarians (APV)

The Australian Pig Veterinarians group (APV) is a special interest group of the Australian Veterinary Association (AVA) and focusses on preventative medicine, and promote a holistic view of veterinary science, particularly with regards to pigs in their various environments.

Why attend?

This ‘whole hog’, two-day virtual event will be held over two days: Thursday 16 & Thursday 23 September 2021 from 3.00pm AEST - 6.30pm AEST on both days.

The APV committee have sourced renowned presenters with an outstanding and professional program. Whether you are updating yourself on the latest information on gene sequencing for pig diseases like Clostridial, Pasteurella or Antimicrobial resistance genes or are just interested to hear about the latest happenings in disease eradications from the field, this event will have it covered!

Our international speaker, a Mycoplasma and respiratory expert, Dr Maria Pieters from the University of Minnesota will be sharing her latest research on the intricate connections of the pigs’ gut microbiota and what this means for respiratory health. Maria will also update us on the latest research on vaccines in this area.
Our line-up of professional talks ranges from the practical, in-field problem solving discussions e.g. getting products into solutions and effectively medicating pigs to a relaxed (grab a beverage!) chat on ‘hands on’ approaches to improving herd health.

Field practitioners as well as researchers will provide updates on the topic of antimicrobial resistance in the Australian pig industry and the greater-than-ever need for alertness to exotic diseases will be sharpened when being presented by practitioners that have had the finger on the pulse for some time. The sad reality of dead pig disposal and a presentation of some viable options will also be covered in the two-day program.
